On this site you will find a number of resources that will assist your understanding and revision of the Area of Study and Modules. You should return to this site regularly during term three and during the study vacation as new material will be uploaded. There is also a new space in Yr 12 study area which contains high-range essays and workbooks.

Over the next term, maintain a balance between study and recreational pursuits. Get some fresh air. Maybe take your notes to the nearest oval, walk laps as you study. Reward yourself for working hard and studying. Vary the way you make notes: type them, use brightly coloured textas, make mind-maps…Set daily goals in terms of study and revision.

In preparing for English over the next two and a half months, learn the Rubric descriptions for your AOS and Modules. Completing past papers is one of the best ways to improve. Write a revision essay and work on it until it is a 20/20 response. Find a unique perspective and create a clear and simple structure. Write regularly within a time constraint of 40 minutes. Rewrite and re-draft constantly. Research the context of the texts you are studying. Consider how the text was influenced by the social and cultural values of the time.

  • Know your texts, know the rubric and answer the set question
  • Buy a copy of the book The Elements of Style by E.B. White and William Strunk. Read it.
  • Use websites: Studentsonline.bos.nsw.edu.au; hsc.csu.edu.au; insidebreak…
  • Be prepared, stay positive and be confident.
  • Reference to character, ideas, setting, language and text construction.
  • Good knowledge of your prescribed text and really good knowledge of selected texts.
  • For each text, learn a number quotes from beginning, middle and end.
  • “Get into small groups, choose a past HSC paper, decide together they’re going to write a response under exam conditions, then go to the BOS website, get the marking guidelines for that question, and mark each other’s paper.”
  • Talk to each other about the texts and the ideas…create your own exam questions.
  • Use the reading time to go through all of the questions, think about answers and decide what to answer first…equal time to all three sections.
